FAMILIES

The family is one of life’s greatest blessings.

The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) was established in 2007 to offer immediate protection and support services for women and children in the UAE against domestic violence, child abuse and human trafficking. It is the first licensed non-profit shelter in the UAE that runs specifically for the care of women and children. The services DFWAC offers are in complete accordance with international human rights obligations.

DUBAI CARES

Last I Learned

There are over 37 million children and adolescents worldwide who have been forced out of school due to wars, conflicts, epidemics and natural disasters. In fact, the attack on education caused by emergencies has dramatically risen to levels higher than at any point in the past 40 years. At Dubai Cares, we believe that education is not only an essential right of every child, but also an irrevocable asset. With over 65 million children worldwide affected by crises, we truly understand and feel that immediate action is crucial.

Dubai Cares has launched the following programs in an effort to ensure children affected by natural and man-made disasters find their way back into the classroom and resume their academic journey:

  • Provision of education to Syrian refugee children in Lebanon
  • School construction in Iraq
  • School re-construction in Nepal post-earthquake
  • Provision of education post Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone
The funds generated from this initiative will go towards supporting these programs.
Sumo accepts donations of AED 5 / AED 10 in the whole month of November 2016.

Through volunteer and charity donations we help create a happier community. We hold our staff to a high, happy standard; volunteer or involvement in an event is recommended at least once a quarter. We are excited to see our Sumo family participate.

Filling The Blues

Filling The Blues returns to support labourer

Dubai's home-grown restaurants are banding together again to give back to labourers working evening shifts during Ramadan 2016 and 2017. Moti Roti's campaign Filling The Blues will make another appearance this year, at the construction site in Al Barsha opposite Al Khoory Atrium Hotel. As part of this programme, a local F&B venture will provide iftar packs to the labourers clocking out of the construction site just before iftar.
Speaking to Caterer Middle East, Moti Roti founder Tahir Shah called the band of volunteer restaurants "the Avengers" and said: "It's a chance to give back to the construction workers in Dubai, and also for everyone including the local restaurants to spend time with each other."

Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation

Turning the Tables

Awqaf and Minors' Affairs Foundation is a Dubai Government Department set out to support minors by raising funds and investments and empowering youth through social welfare and rehabilitation.
The AWQAF & Minor Affairs department also directly operates the only orphanage in Dubai, known as “Family Village”. The department is responsible for the orphans’ healthcare, education, and well-being throughout their life in the UAE.

In collaboration with AWQAF & Minors Affairs Department and Zomato, Sumo launched the Turning the Tables Initiative. This initiative was to collect funds (10dhs) that will directly support the orphans project that AWQAF is currently engaged in.
